B Secure staff swift response to an accident

A motorcycle collided into a car as the driver exited the parking space. The security control officer was informed of the incident and immediately instructed the event medic to respond to the scene from his position on the 3rd floor of the venue. He informed the event organizers of the incident and reported to the scene. When he arrived on the scene he noticed that the motorcycle rider was lying face down in the centre of the roadway. A white female was kneeling over the patient alongside the event medic and claimed to be a doctor. The scene was not yet secure and the security control officer immediately set up traffic control. Reflective vests were issued to the personnel managing the scene. A stop-go system was implemented to ensure patient and medic safety prior to the arrival of the emergency services.

The event medic had arrived on the scene to find a lady claiming to be a doctor and in charge of the scene. He suggested holding C-spine but was prevented by the above mentioned lady. He then took it upon himself to start a primary survey while the lady was calling the patients wife. The event medic contacted a paramedic via his cell phone who arrived on scene and immediately attended to the patient. Shortly thereafter the ambulance arrived on scene as well as SAPS. The security control officer handed the scene over to the Constable and he suggested to the Constable that they close the road to traffic so as to ensure total safety to all personnel on scene. The Constable agreed with his reasoning and the personnel were instructed to close the road to traffic. The security control officer instructed another security officer to position himself at his former post on the 3rd level of the venue so as to provide apartment security. The remaining security personnel were instructed to provide vehicle security away from the scene. The paramedics along with the event medic attended to the patient. A unit lift was done to turn the patient supine and the event medic was told to perform a secondary survey. The event medic’s findings were that the patient’s right arm was possibly fractured; his left wrist and his left femur were extremely painful and the patient had an open cut on the shin. The patients Jacket and shirt were cut and he was fully immobilized and taken to the Ambulance. The paramedic ran a line and treated the patient with morphine. The patient was then transported to the hospital by the ambulance.

SAPS notified the patient’s next of kin to arrange towing for the damaged motorcycle. The motorcycle was moved to the sidewalk so as to clear the obstruction by the SAPS. The security control officer instructed his personnel to reopen the roadway.
Representatives who witnessed B Secure staff actions on the scene were extremely impressed and relayed their verbal thanks to all who assisted.
